As a KiwiSaver member, you may also be able to withdraw a portion of your savings to go towards purchasing your first home. This policy, which began in 2015, has helped many Kiwis afford the initial costs of buying their first property. If you meet the requirements, this is a fantastic way to speed up the purchase process and get into your new home as soon as possible.
REQUIREMENTS FOR THE KIWISAVER FIRST-HOME WITHDRAWAL:
- You must be over the age of eighteen
- You must be a first-time home buyer or a qualifying person
- You must have contributed to your KiwiSaver fund for three years (there is a minimum contribution required)
- You must leave $1000 in your KiwiSaver after you have made the withdrawal
In some cases, those who have purchased a property in the past may still be eligible for the KiwiSaver withdrawal.
